Why smell the Coffee?
(H2) Hi, All and welcome to my blog.
I’m Lyn and this is my first ever blog! Together with my husband Dave, I own and run Dottie About, a small retail shop in Louth, Lincolnshire.
We are what’s classed as Senior Citizens?!! There’s very little senior about Dave and I except our age. We tried retirement and found it didn’t really suit us, so here we are, shop owners of our comforting, relaxing, community space.
(H3) Reasons Why!
So many people now a days love to light a candle or a wax melt to bring an atmosphere into their space, some of you also add reed diffusers too, all of which adds to layering your favourite fragrances around your home.
There are a few reasons for this, that I can think of.
*You have Fur Babies you adore, but not the aroma they leave around you, your home and furnishings.
* Your work space may be stale or pungent, so you wish your home to refresh your senses.
*Your life is stressful and you need to create a calm environment to reset and relax at the end of the day.
There are many more reasons I’m sure, but who needs a boring list, right?
(H4) Fragrances.
With so many aromas to choose from on the market these days, it can be a bit confusing. It certainly makes me undecided as to which fragrance I like best and what to choose.
Let’s face it, we all know which fragrances we prefer and will actively search out products with that scent in the blend.
Because Scent is a very personal thing, we all have a fragrance we absolutely love and will actively seek it out and we also have the ones that we are not so keen on!
So when you visit a shop selling fragrances of any type, you instantly notice your senses are flooded with lots of gorgeousness. Here is where I can help, a little.
(H5) Smell the Coffee.
Your senses are rightly overwhelmed with all the fragrances coming at them from every direction and everything smells delightful. You want to smell everything, so that you can decide which scent you prefer, right? Great idea, but how do you know which fragrance you are actually smelling? I had a customer ask me once…” how can I smell a candle properly inside a shop, with so many other candles around?” She was right, it is difficult to know how a fragrance smells, when your senses are being overwhelmed.
Here’s a little tip that I learned recently. A way to help your senses reset. Once you have had a sniff of your chosen fragrance, breathed it in fully, maybe a few times if you like it. But, you want to try another fragrance next to or near it, your nose is already tuned in to the first fragrance, so what can you do? Smell the Coffee. Coffee beans have a rich, strong fragrance, stronger than the candle you already smelled, the strong scent of the coffee resets your senses and allows you to smell the next fragrance clearly. A customer came in this week and was merrily moving along the row of candles, when I asked her to smell the coffee, she did and went back to the candle before’ she said “ I couldn’t smell that candle at all, a moment ago, but I can now!”
I was so pleased that the coffee had worked for her, try it the next time you are in a fragrance shop and they have coffee beans sitting about randomly, pick them up and smell the coffee, see if it works for you too.
Thanks for listing to me chatter, have fun choosing your home fragrances.
Take care and speak again soon.
Lyn xx
